Introduction
It’s been a while since I last posted, and today I felt compelled to write about something that’s been tugging at my heart every day: faith in God during the toughest seasons. While listening to Bryan Duncan’s moving track “Faithful to You,” tears fell, and a familiar ache resurfaced—the ache of wondering whether my own faith can survive the storms that life throws our way.
If you’re a believer, you already know that walking with Christ isn’t a guarantee of an easy road. In fact, the opposite is often true. The enemy intensifies his attacks when we’re most vulnerable, and the very questions that once seemed simple—“Do you really trust Him?”—can become deafening roars.
Below, I’m sharing my raw, unfiltered journey over the past few months: the family battles, job anxieties, health scares, and the moments when my faith in God felt like it was slipping. I hope my story encourages you to cling tighter to the One who never abandons us, even when He seems silent.
1. The Reality of a Faith That’s Tested
A. The “Hard” Part of Being Christian
Being a Christian isn’t about sipping sweet tea on a breezy porch while God does all the heavy lifting. Scripture repeatedly reminds us that “the testing of your faith produces perseverance” (James 1:3). When I first embraced Christ, I imagined a life of peace and purpose—but the reality was a landscape dotted with hardships:
Area What Happened How It Affected My Faith
Family: Because of my arthritis and loss of my job marital and family tension rose. Feelings of helplessness turned into questions: “Why does God allow this?”
Job : My Security department decided I was not fit for duty and put me on ADA and no pay. Anxiety about financial stability made me wonder if God cared about my career.
Health: fatigue and pain from the arthritis in my joints left me exhausted, especially during prayer time. Physical weakness made spiritual discipline feel like a chore rather than a privilege.
Every blow seemed to chip away at my confidence in God’s goodness. I found myself slipping—slowly, almost imperceptibly—away from the place where I once felt secure in His promises.
B. The Enemy’s Strategy
The Bible warns us that the enemy loves to “stir up trouble, especially when we’re vulnerable” (Ezekiel 25:17). In my case, the attacks manifested as:
Doubt: “Maybe I’m not a ‘real’ Christian if I’m struggling.”
Distraction: Endless to‑do lists that left little room for worship.
Isolation: Pulling away from supportive believers to avoid appearing “weak.”
If you’ve ever felt these same tactics, know you’re not alone. The enemy thrives on our absence of divine focus—the very thing faith in God is meant to protect.
2. The Lifelines That Saved Me
A. The Power of Intercessory Prayer
If the enemy wanted me to give up, He didn’t count on the fact that God places a community of believers around each of us. A close friend and a family member began praying for me daily, and something shifted. Their prayers weren’t just words; they were a spiritual outpouring that reminded me God was still at work—even when I couldn’t see it.
“When you pray for someone, you invite the Holy Spirit to intervene on their behalf.” – 1 Timothy 2:1
B. The Comfort of Scripture
I turned back to verses that speak of God’s timing. One that struck a chord was Ecclesiastes 3:1, “To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.” When I asked God for relief, He answered—not in the instant I hoped for, but in His timeline. That revelation brought both frustration and freedom.
C. The Practice of Honest Prayer
Instead of pretending everything was fine, I began laying my raw emotions before Him:
“Lord, I’m scared. I’m angry. I’m frustrated. I’m also grateful for the friends who won’t let me walk this road alone.”
Honest prayer reminded me that God welcomes our brokenness (Psalm 34:18). It also created space for Him to work in my heart, reshaping my expectations from “I want this now” to “Your timing is perfect, even when I can’t see it.”
3. What I Learned About Faith in God
1. Faith Is Not a Feeling, It’s a Decision
Feelings are fickle; they rise and fall with circumstances. Faith in God is a choice to trust even when the heart is heavy. Each morning, I choose to declare:
“God loves me, and He is with me, even when I can’t see His hand.”
2. Patience Is the Heartbeat of Faith
The most painful lesson has been learning to wait on God’s schedule. When I tried to “push” Him—sending frantic emails to the heavens, demanding a faster answer—I only deepened my frustration. Scripture tells us “the Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness.” (2 Pet 3:9). Patience isn’t passive; it’s actively trusting that God is already at work behind the scenes.
3. Community Fuels Faith
Isolation is the enemy’s favorite diet. The prayer circles, small group devotionals, and even a simple text check‑in from a friend gave me fresh spiritual stamina. God uses people as vessels of His love when we allow Him to.
4. God’s “No” Can Be a “Yes” in Disguise
Sometimes God says “no” or “wait,” and the immediate reaction is disappointment. Yet, looking back, those moments often turned into blessings I never could have imagined. Trusting His “no” freed me to see the bigger picture He was painting.
4. Practical Steps to Strengthen Your Faith
If you’re reading this and feel your own faith in God wavering, try these four actionable habits:
Step How to Implement Why It Works
1. Daily Quiet Time Set a 10‑minute alarm each morning. Read a short passage (e.g., Psalm 23) and pray honestly. Starts the day anchored in God’s truth.
2. Write a Prayer Journal Jot down specific requests, then note how God responds over weeks. Visual proof of God’s faithfulness.
3. Find an Accountability Partner Pair up with a trusted believer; meet (virtually or in person) weekly for prayer. Encourages consistency and provides spiritual support.
4. Practice “Waiting on God” Choose one lingering request and commit to a 30‑day period of trust, no follow‑up emails to God. Trains patience and deepens reliance on His timing.
5. My Prayer for You
I’m still learning—my faith is a work in progress, not a finished masterpiece. Yet, I hold onto this truth: God is always there, waiting with open arms, even when we can’t feel His presence.
Lord, I pray that anyone reading this can feel the steady hand of Your love. May our hearts grow stronger, our trust deeper, and our lives a testimony to Your unwavering faithfulness.
Conclusion: Keep the Faith, Keep the Fight
Staying faithful to God isn’t a one‑time decision; it’s a daily battle—a battle we’re not meant to fight alone. With prayer, community, honest surrender, and a willingness to wait on His perfect timeline, we can navigate the toughest seasons without losing our grip on His promises.
